Cable Fault Location in Distribution Network Based on Decomposition of Time Reversal Operator

Abstract

Aiming at the difficulty of cable fault location in the distribution network, this paper proposes a cable fault location method based on the decomposition of time reversal operator (DORT). The proposed method constructs time reversal operator based on the scattering matrix of the network and its eigenvectors to eliminate the influence of network topology and terminal reflection. Reversal waveform will then be injected from each port of the network. The time domain response and spatial energy spectrum of each part of the network are combined to achieve the fault point location. The proposed method can be extended to multi-fault location by the differential scattering matrix decomposition algorithm, which only needs to measure the fault scattering matrix once to locate multiple faults, significantly improving the efficiency of fault location. The test case results demonstrate that this method can effectively overcome the influence of network topology and achieve accurate location of single and even multiple faults in the distribution network.
